One of our clients had their technical support staff travelling across India and overseas to install and commission their new milling and turning machines at their end users’ sites. This was, however, proving to be a major logistical challenge for them. Therefore, they wanted us to design an online program that could train all their end users on the commissioning of their machines.

We reasoned that the content had to be packed in a way it could enable bite-sized learning. For instance, when end users received the machine delivered in their factory, the first thing they had to do was to unpack it. In addition to the comprehensive online program they would have gone through, there should be something giving them a heads-up on the unpacking alone.

We conceptualized and designed an app-driven video experience that would complement the regular online course.

We started by asking ourselves a couple of questions.

  1. In addition to taking up the online course, would not the users find it useful to SEE how the unpacking was done when they were about to unpack?
  2. Would it not be great if they could access a video on their smart phones explaining the steps in sequence, so they could DO the unpacking confidently?

The answers to both the questions were a definite ‘Yes!’ And, the proposition was quite exciting! All we had to do was, connect the missing link and we would be on a roll.

QR Codes! And, that was the trick. We identified all critical parts of the milling and turning machines and created QR Codes for each of them. And, we listed all the identified parts with their respective QR Codes on a cheat sheet. This sheet would get delivered with all the new machines, so the end users could have a quick macro view of parts supported by videos.

In addition, we also placed these QR Codes on all the identified parts. So, while commissioning the machines, if the users needed an instant clarification, all they had to do was point their smart phones on the QR Code and the related video would start playing, showing them the sequence of actions to be followed as far as commissioning that particular part is concerned.

Not only did this performance-support system help in effective learning, it also helped users DO what they were supposed to. Needless to mention, the client was quite thrilled about this approach and so were we.

Do you have any similar experiences you would like to share with us? We would be happy to hear you out in this space..

Learning Culture vs Training Culture

Many workplaces still treat learning as a one-off task—something to tick off after a course or compliance module. But real growth doesn’t happen in isolated sessions. This article unpacks the key difference between a training culture and a learning culture—and why it matters. While one ends with the session, the other is woven into everyday work, conversations, and challenges. The piece offers a clear perspective on how organisations can move beyond checklists and create an environment where learning is ongoing, meaningful, and part of the culture.

Corporate Culture vs. Company Values

It’s easy to print your values on posters. It’s much harder to live by them every day. This article unpacks the growing disconnect between company values and actual workplace culture – and why that gap matters. It explores how culture isn’t built on buzzwords but on behaviours, decisions, and what leaders choose to reward. When values are lived, they create trust and meaning. When they aren’t backed by action, people notice. The piece offers practical ways to close the gap and build a culture that not only says the right things, but does them too.

Stop Micromanaging. Start Trusting.

Micromanaging rarely starts with bad intentions—but it can quietly erode trust, stifle creativity, and drain ownership from even the most capable teams. In remote settings, where reassurance can’t come from a smile or a quick hallway chat, the impact runs deeper. This piece unpacks how micromanagement shows up, why it’s often invisible to the manager, and what it really takes to build a culture of trust. Because real support isn’t about control—it’s about creating space for people to take the lead, make mistakes, and grow.
